Three improvisations for Andreas Wöhle

Three music and dance trio improvisations for Andreas Wöhle. With: Makiko Ito, Manuela Lucia Tessi – dance and Ada Rave-saxophone, clarinet and objects. Amsterdam, studio Bodlabot, OT301, February 2025.

Andreas Wöhle has been, and is, a very important person for the Amsterdam community and for the arts. Between 2010 and 2015, I and my colleagues Ada and Makiko, amongst many others,  have been working with him at the Maarten Luther Kerk, in Amsterdam Rivierenbuurt.

Thanks to his openness and hard work, the MLK became a great place of gathering, not only for church activities, but for many cultural events, in particular around improvised music and dance. Those events were small scale, experimental, and highly inclusive.

Many artists, some of them international and new to the scene in Amsterdam, found a place to share their music, dance, theatre practice, with the local and international community. The MLK has been a warm and uplifting place where interesting, high quality projects took place and where many great people got together.

I can name a few, Wonderland ( a monthly series of music and dance performances for children and family, directed by Makiko Ito, that has also performed for many years in other locations), experimental and improvised music series, and theatre projects ( The Six Songs, directed by Monique Cornwell). I, as well as many artists and audience in the city, will be always thankful to Andreas for his generosity and adventurous mind, for supporting what I feel is a great way to connect people’ s hearts.

We have made these three improvised pieces, hope you enjoy them.

Warmly,

Manuela Lucia Tessi
